I was contacted by a busy professional couple to refurbish their 6 bedroom house in Richmond originally built by a developer, the property had impressive large airy rooms but with basic finishes and no personality.
The brief was to create a stylish contemporary renovation suitable for the family, their three children and large dog. The Interior design and decoration includes 3 reception rooms, including a large double height hall and 6 bathrooms.
Each project begins with a detailed discussion with the client to really understand their needs and lifestyle. By sketching out various options I can present the furniture layouts available and fine tune and solve any issues that need to be addressed. In this project there was a large amount of Oak flooring, doors and joinery which the client disliked. By researching various finishes I found a Mylands hard wax oil for the floor boards in a soft muted colour and specified complementary paint colours for the doors.
To ensure all the colours and materials work well together I create a palette of materials, fabrics and finishes and include these ideas in watercolour perspectives. These are very useful for the client as they can immediately grasp the concept of the proposed design.
This project has a wealth of bespoke finishes; including unique paint effects to the walls; a smart linen effect in the sitting room, a textured informal effect in the family room and a soft warm colourwash to the hall. The hall also has a large patterned Cole and Son wallpaper leading the eye from the ground to top floor. Looking up there is a bespoke 3 metre cascade chandelier of handmade coloured glass, manufactured in the Czech Republic. The client was thrilled with this beautiful focal point.
We also designed and installed bespoke joinery cabinets, supplied furniture, decorative lighting, handmade tiles, motorized blinds and window treatments. By planning the programme with the contractor, the project ran smoothly and was completed on time and within budget.
