Having completed two previous tennis club refurbishments, I was delighted to be asked to re-design Putney Tennis Club which was an un-loved 1980’s building.
The brief was to create a contemporary renovation suitable for a busy club catering for all ages. The facilities should be future- proofed and sustainable as well as stylish. The was a warren of rooms and an old fashioned bar that had to be removed to create a large open plan members lounge and a new 9m long bar with plenty of space for socialising. New lighting, warm textured finishes, new sliding doors and a large bay window to view the courts make the space light and airy.
I worked closely with the engineer, project manager and contractors to create a scheme on budget and on time.

I sourced sustainable materials for the project including: recycled Foresso for the bar top, made from timber chips of Cedar and Walnut, it is durable, easy to clean and creates a Wow factor. The bar has a painted ribbed timber front and antique mirror and green glazed tiles for the back bar. There are recycled glass worktops with painted units to kitchen, The flooring is Looselay Karndean Timber effect vinyl, 100% recyclable and 15 years guarantee.
Our aim was to create a contemporary design that respects the local environment and works with the existing building in a sustainable way, The chosen materials are elegant, durable and future proof. Creating an interior that is comfortable and stylish with open views of the tennis courts and a social space for the members to meet, relax, eat and drink.
This project has a wealth of durable acoustic sustainable finishes; including cork tiles to the walls; Karndean vinyl to the floor, lightweight panelling to the bar. The colours and shapes used reflect the surroundings. The colour palette is vibrant and rich with red clay, sky blue and deep green to echo the external surroundings.
