The brief for this tired and run-down Georgian maisonette was to create a stylish, light and airy contemporary living space. I worked with my trusted team of joiners, builders and decorators to bring this home back to life.
Bringing natural daylight into the rooms and adding discreet lighting to enhance the period features was key. The simple yet elegant new display shelves in the living room have concealed LED lighting and create a focal point in the space.
The dining room has the WOW factor with its large oval marble table, Soho House chandelier and fun artwork. The new lighting specified enhances the artwork display and creates different ambiance as well as.
The existing kitchen was elevated by repainting it in black and adding neat brass handles, the geometric floor tiles were added to bring excitement to the room.
In the master bathroom installing a new encaustic tiled floor in black and white and new shower enclosure in black, gave the space a crisp clean aesthetic.
Wallpaper was used to bring luxury and atmosphere to the master bedroom, dressing and TV snug, with a Silver and Emerald geometric grass cloth paper. A built-in headboard with integrated lighting, power, and storage adds to the hotel level comfort.
The timber floors were sanded and stained throughout and new carpets added to the extensive staircase with a tailored black border to the carpet to create a smart first impression.
The client had a wonderful quirky art collection which helped inspire the colour choices and the Soho House inspired furniture selection, added to the glamourous modern feel.
The 168 sq. m space was designed over a month, and with my team able to start immediately they spent 4 months on site for the building and decorating and another month for the finishing touches, such as window treatments, furniture installation and art hanging. The client was able to live there while some of the work was carried out and was thrilled with the ‘amazing’ result.
The concept design stage of images and ideas were presented to the client and then with quick back and forth communication these were tweaked to get the look the client liked. With the concept agreed the construction drawings, schedules and scope of works could be produced. These were then passed to the contractor for costing. All details and costs were agreed before work started so there were no delays on site and no stressful last minute decisions.
